THE 69th Annual National Convention of the Philippine Sugar Technologists Association (Philsutech) is slated on August 22-25 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.

With this year’s theme “Gearing Towards a Competitive Sugarcane Industry to Adapt the Changing Global Situation”, Philsutech’s annual national convention gathers all sectors of the sugarcane industry – sugar millers, ethanol distillers, biopower generators, planters, traders and suppliers –under one roof to exchange ideas and experiences in their respective fields of expertise, as well as to meet new friends and share the camaraderie of colleagues in the industry.

No less than 1,000 delegates are expected to join the confab. Most of the participants are from the Philippines, but numerous delegates from other sugar-producing countries also usually attend the event.

During the convention, top national government executives, policy makers and experts in various fields are invited to provide updates and share their ideas on issues affecting the sugarcane industry. The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) also delivers its national sugar production and consumption report for the current crop year, as well as projections for the industry for the coming crop year.

The first day of the convention on August 22 tees off with a friendly golf tournament at the Cebu Country Club among Philsutech members, sponsors, product exhibitors and guests. In the afternoon, the product exhibits open for viewing. About 100 product exhibitors for agricultural and industrial equipment and technologies are expected to participate.

Formal opening of the convention is slated on August 23, while the report of the Sugar Regulatory Administration is on August 24. On the final day of the convention, August 25,Philsutech will hold its Annual General Membership Assembly, where members will elect the new set of Philsutech officers.
