‘Access to free TV stays as great equalizer’

Carla N. Canet

GMA Regional TV vice president and head Oliver Amoroso during the launching of “One Western Visayas” on August 25 said that in this modern age of news and information, GMA Regional TV continues to believe that access to local news on free TV is a great equalizer.

“I cannot emphasize enough how important local news is. While the national news media reports on a wider scope, it is the local stories that directly affect our families and communities. Staying true to our battle cry, local news matters, we are committed to providing a newscast that is attuned to the stories, voices, and viewership of Region 6 [Western Visayas],” he said.

GMA Regional TV programs and projects are built on what we call diversity moments, he said.

“Now, with the faster pace of newscasts and with reports being limited to a minute or two, our regional news teams are challenged to be more efficient and creative in producing stories,” he said, adding “it’s not enough that we innovate, we also have to be consistent. We continue staying committed to providing quality service to our regional viewers, advertisers, and partners.”
