Filipino drug mule suspect arrested in Indonesia

MANILA -- Indonesian authorities have arrested a Filipino woman who allegedly attempted to smuggle heroin at a Central Java airport.

The arrest came days after China executed three drug traffickers from the Philippines.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday that the woman came from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was caught April 3 with more than one kilogram (two pounds) of heroin at the Adi Sumarmo Airport in Solo.

The department said the woman allegedly was paid $8,000 by an international drug syndicate to carry the heroin into Indonesia.

Philippine officials repeated a warning to Filipinos who work abroad not to carry packages from people or accept offers from drug syndicates.

The Philippines is one of the world's largest labor exporters. (AP)
