THE First Philippine Industrial Corporation (FPIC) issued an apology on Monday over the pipeline oil leak in a village in Makati City.

During a Senate hearing Monday, FPIC officer-in-charge Anthony Mabasa apologizes to the affected residents in Barangay Bangkal who evacuated and even got sick.

"Kami ay taos-pusong humihingi ng inyong pang-unawa, pagpapatawad at pagpapaumanhin sa aming naging mga pagkukulang," he said.

Mabasa said the FPIC learned an "invaluable lesson" after many people suffered.

"We should have been more compassionate, more caring, and more sensitive," Mabasa said.

He assured the public to do whatever they can to "compensate fairly" those affected by the leak.

Mabasa hopes the public will give them chance to do what is right.

The FPIC vowed that it will shoulder the expenses for the damages and effects of the gas leak.

Present in the Senate hearing were officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Energy, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Health, Bureau of Fire Protection, Makati City Government and affected residents in Makati City. (Sunnex)
