GM aims to double China car sales to 5 million

Sunnexdesk

SHANGHAI, China — General Motors Co. has announced plans to double the number of cars it sells in China to 5 million by 2015.

GM China President Kevin Wale said Monday the company is optimistic it can achieve the target, which is more than twice the 2.35 million vehicles it sold in 2010.

Global automakers are focusing their efforts on China's auto market, which is the world's biggest. More than 13 million passenger vehicles were sold in the country last year, when sales grew by a third over 2009.

Wale also said there has been minimal impact on GM's production from supply chain disruptions related to the tsunami in Japan last month. (AP)
