House to investigate train breakdowns

Sunnexdesk

MANILA -- Congress is set to probe the recent breakdowns in Metro Manila’s rail transit systems through Resolution 1159 filed by LPG Marketers’ Association Representative party-list group Representative Arnel Ty.

The measure enables the House Committee on Transportation to investigate the recent accidents in the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 or the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1.

Ty filed the resolution shortly after the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) decided to transfer the operation and maintenance of LRT Line 1 and MRT Line 3 to the private sector.

The party-list lawmaker cited newspaper notices published by the DOTC inviting interested parties to bid for the “outsourcing of the operation and maintenance” of the two train systems (excluding LRT Line 2) for a period of four years, extendable by one year.(Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
