Lady Gaga on Japan: It's safe, food's great

Sunnexdesk

TOKYO — Lady Gaga says if you want to help Japan recover from its tsunami disaster, come visit.

The flamboyant pop star is in Tokyo this week for a benefit concert for tsunami victims and says she's making a point to get out and enjoy the city and its food. She said Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press that although radiation is leaking from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant about 140 miles (220 kilometers) from the city, the majority of Japan is very safe.

Many performers and athletes have canceled appearances in Japan since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, but Lady Gaga says she couldn't wait to get back. She received a certificate from the commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency, thanking her for her support and fundraising efforts. (AP)
