Christmas parties amid pandemic

Carla N. Canet

AS COVID-19 restrictions are still in effect, private and public offices and organizations are entertaining the idea of still celebrating Christmas by holding them virtually.

It cannot be avoided that physical distancing is still part of the health protocols enforced by the government, thus holding the Christmas party with the physical presence of the attendees is highly discouraged.

Even local government units also open up their Christmas villages with restrictions. Just like the Silay City Government, the opening of their Christmas village last December 6 was done virtually. It was nice and safe.

True enough, there are many ways to celebrate the season under the new normal.

As the saying says, it is better to be safe than sorry and so it is also wise to forgo the usual parties we had been accustomed to prior to the pandemic.

For one, Zoom parties are now the trend. It's also fun to see faces online and exchanging gifts too. But of course, gifts will be delivered through couriers after the party or the following days.

We must welcome these changes because this is the safest way to end the year 2020 with a big bang in terms of good health and safety.

But for those people who would still love to hold parties and have fun with co-workers, friends, and family, amidst the threat of the virus, I have few tips that may be useful in ensuring safety for all attendees.

First, choose an outdoor venue to enjoy an alfresco ambiance. With this, people can sometimes remove their masks, especially when eating.

If the venue is in an open air, then there will be less risk of transmission.

Observe physical distance when seated. A one-meter distance from each other is still the safest setup. When getting your food, continue to keep your personal space. This will allow you to choose your favorite food leisurely.

When talking, make sure that your face mask is worn. Never take a chance to be unmindful of it because that is your best line of protection against the virus.

Always make sure that you have your alcohol with you or you can wash your hands with soap as frequently possible.

Let us not be complacent. We can safely enjoy the season by observing the health protocols.
