Dinagsa fest: A burst of colors

Carla N. Canet

THE 46th Dinagsa festival in Cadiz City has captivated millennials and tourists alike who threw themselves at anyone who smudges their faces and bodies with the festival’s “Lamhitanay” (smudging) splurge.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr., former Mayor Patrick Escalante, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, likewise a former Cadiz City mayor, and many others including those in slow moving and parked vehicles, were not exempted.

Everybody was relentless in engaging in smudging spree that gave the celebration more color on top of its religious significance in honor of their patron Señor Santo Niño.

Governor Lacson has enjoyed the smudging as some people moved toward him with their latex paints and playfully painted it on the governor’s face and shirt.

Mayor Escalante felt delighted that the celebration went well and it served its purpose of honoring their patron at the same time giving the residents and tourists reasons to celebrate.
