100 sacks of charcoal seized in Manapla town

AT LEAST 100 sacks of charcoal from illegal logging were confiscated after members of the Manapla town police and officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-Cenro) seized a boat at Barangay II-A in the town of Manapla, Tuesday afternoon, February 4.

Manapla town police chief, Police Captain Jaynick Bermudez, said they conducted the operation in relation to Sec. 77 of Presidential Decree 705 otherwise known as the “Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines.”

When authorities arrived on site, they discovered that the unidentified owner of the boat was gone, leaving behind the sacks of charcoal, which were made through illegal logging.

The confiscated sacks of charcoal was temporarily placed under the custody of the Manapla Municipal Police Station, while the case has been referred to the DENR-Cenro in Cadiz City. (TDE)
