TWO barangays in San Carlos City expressed their support on the coal-fired power plant, San Carlos City Vice Mayor Renato Gustilo revealed on Friday, November 30.

Gustilo said the village councils of Barangay Punaw and Barangay Palampas passed a resolution posing no objection to the coal-fired power plant for as long as it follows the standard set by the government especially by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

He also said that members of the San Carlos City Council have already conducted a study tour at some coal-fired power plants in the country and that based on their observation, SMC Power Holdings which plans to construct a 300-megawatt coal-fired power plant in San Carlos City is also following the standard set by the government.

Meanwhile, San Carlos Diocese Bishop Gerardo Alminaza is against the project for environmental and human health issues.
