TWO businessmen reported to the police the alleged extortion by some individuals claiming to be members of the New People's Army.

The businessmen reported the alleged extortion to Police Station 4 (PS4) this week.

PS4 commander, Police Major Reynante Jomocan, has requested the victims not be identified for security purposes.

According to Jomocan, the two businessmen went to their station after they received calls from individuals claiming to be NPA insurgents.

The two victims said the individuals asked for P30,000 in exchange that they will not harass their businesses.

However, Jomocan said it is possible the individuals behind the phone calls may not be insurgents at all and are probably only using the NPA's name as a modus.

The police commander also advised the two victims to block the phone numbers in order for them not be victimized in the future.
