3 killed, 17 injured as truck falls off cliff

THREE were killed while 17 others were injured when a mini-truck fell off a cliff in San Carlos City, late Friday afternoon.

The Canter mini-truck carrying the 20 passengers fell off a cliff in the steep road in Sitio Iliran, Barangay Codcod, San Carlos City.

Police Master Sergeant Joniber Sapanta, San Carlos City traffic investigator identified the fatalities as Jenalyn Lubrido Capriano 40, Maricel Dalmacio Lubrido 37 and Haide Cantoy Lubrido 37.

The three died on the spot while the injured who were mostly minors were rushed by rescuers to a hospital in Bacolod City.

Initial police investigation showed that the vehicle came from Calatrava town for a betrothal of a family member identified as Wiljun Balbuen.

He was however not in the vehicle as he opted to remain at the house of his bride-to-be in Calatrava.

One of the survivors told investigators that the driver lost control of the vehicle when it lost its break along a descending curve of the road.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
