SEVERAL key heads of the Municipal Government of Moises Padilla have tendered voluntary resignation from their posts lamenting on the loss of Mayor Magdaleno Peña in the 2019 midterm elections.

In a joint statement signed by Municipal Civil Registrar Jonalyn Diaz; Municipal Accountant Elsie Meguiso; and Municipal Agriculturist Ramonita Ronquillo, they said they have formed partnership with the outgoing mayor, in terms of the delivery of all forms of services to the town's residents.

They pointed out they can only perform well if they work under Peña's supervision and thus they have tendered resignation effective June 15 of this year.

The three officials also credited Peña's performance such as the construction of bridges, providing medical care, the concreting of roads in the town's hinterlands, and making the town as one of the "drug-free" zones in Negros Occidental as one of the "remarkable legacies" left by the outgoing mayor.

The three said with the exit of the outgoing mayor, it would be very unfortunate that he could no longer facilitate the concreting of the town's main road pointing out it has not yet been repaired as Peña was still in the process of negotiating with registered private owners of road lots.

They added if Peña won the elections, the road project would have been one of his first agenda for accomplishment.

Peña lost against Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo who garnered 13,056 votes to the outgoing mayor's 5,493.

The mayor has already filed a recount, questioning the results from 40 clustered precincts, and claiming “illegal voting” took place in the town.

Garcia-Yulo, meanwhile, stated she is removing majority of current Municipal Hall employees claiming many are not local residents.
