THREE barangay captains in Bacolod City, who are supporting Grupo Progreso, are eyeing to run for Liga ng mga Barangay president this year.

Of the 61 barangays, village chiefs Rosinie Distrito of Barangay Singcang-Airport, Anthony Ayco of Barangay 25, and Jose Maria Leonardo de Leon of Barangay Vista Alegre showed their intention to run for Liga ng mga Barangay president, said Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran.

Familiaran said his son Andre, chieftain of Barangay 13, is not interested to run for the said position.

“They are all qualified, but at the end of the day only one candidate will be chosen for this position,” he added.

Familiaran said that incumbent Liga ng mga Barangay President, Councilor Noli Villarosa, can still run for the said position.

The vice mayor said it is the obligation of the incumbent Liga ng mga Barangay president to call an assembly under the supervision of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The 61 barangay captains are set to elect the Liga ng mga Barangay president in July.

Distrito is the brother of Councilor Caesar Distrito, the city council majority floor leader and chairperson of Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on budget and finance, laws and ordinances.

Incoming Chieftain Jhun Mharby Orola of Barangay 26 showed his support for Distrito to be the next president of the Liga ng mga Barangay.
