Barangay 8 captain passes away

Merlinda A. Pedrosa

BARANGAY 8 Captain Mylene Diwara in Bacolod City passed away on Aoril 14 due to acute myeloid leukemia.

Diwara, 57, joined politics in 1994 to 2003 as barangay kagawad. She was elected barangay captain in 2007 and this year would be her last term.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Monday, April 16, that in the previous years, Diwara told him she had a health problem.

He said he talked with Diwara's son on April 15.

"It was only revealed after she had a check-up in Manila when they were told that their mother was in serious condition and they did not expect this will happen to her in an early time. We thought she was only sick," he added.

Leonardia said Diwara is a big loss to the barangay governance because of her commitment to serve, adding she is one of those who had maintained integrity.

"She was the kind who would stick to her words. She had a word of honor. How I wish there will be others who will follow what she was, she had a good record and we salute her works as barangay captain. We condole to the family and the residents of Barangay 8," Leonardia said.

Her remains will be brought to Barangay 8 hall.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
