“WE APOLOGIZE”

This was the statement of City Administrator lawyer Pacifico Maghari III yesterday, November 13 as to the delay of the collection of garbage in several areas of Bacolod.

Maghari said the collection is already almost seven days delayed as the road leading to the city’s sanitary landfill at Bafrangay Felisa is currently not in good state.

“This is not intentional and it is not the fault of IPM (the city’s official garbage hauler) either, because of the poor condition of the road, their trucks cannot swiftly unload the garbage,” he explained.

However, Maghari noted that the repair of the road already started on Saturday which means the residents could expect improvements as to the garbage collection and that they assure to address the backlog within the week.

Engineer Ephraem Hechanova, Assistant City Engineer said, that they already installed boulders along the road leading to the landfill so that the dump trucks could pass through.

“We have an existing project with an estimated cost of P10 million for the concreting of the road, too,” Hechanova noted, adding that it was temporarily halted.

This after the original owner claimed that the city has consumed the portion of the land which is not part of what he has sold, he said.

“While the repair and concreting of the road is ongoing, dumptrucks will passed through the road that we use before going to the old city dumpsite,” Hechanova said.

When asked how long the repair and the concreting will finish, he said that their target date for the project to be finished will be first quarter of next year.

“But we need an additional P30 million for its completion and we already asked the mayor to appropriate such amount,” the engineer disclosed.

He said that there is a need to put up a bridge because the nearby creek usually overspills during heavy rain.

On top of that, Hechanova noted that the drainage system was already clogged and the road have cave in due to soil erosion.
