THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution recognizing the exemplary deed of Albert Mendoza in rescuing and resuscitating an electrocuted puppy during a fire at Regent Pearl, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City on September 22, 2019.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., was approved during the regular session of the City Council on Wednesday, October 2.

Gamboa said Mendoza is a member of the Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade.

The rescue of the said dog during the fire incident was featured in national dailies and news programs and garnered more than 25,000 likes on social media.

Gamboa noted that Mendoza’s good deed has recently featured Bacolod City as an animal-friendly city and its constituents are advocates against animal abuse and cruelty.

“It is timely that the City recognizes this deed in celebration of World Animal day on October 4 and 'World Rabies Day,' as well as the Feast of Patron Saint of Animals, Saint Francis of Asisi,” Gamboa said.

Gamboa noted that every September 28 to October 4 of every year is known as the Bacolod Animal Welfare Awareness Week or Bawaw, as embodied in City Ordinance 825 Series of 2017. (MAP)
