THE Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution strongly condemning the assassination of Negros Occidental Governor Roel Degamo and the eight civilians and sending condolences to the families of the victims of the atrocious and evil acts.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella, was approved during the regular session of the City Council Tuesday evening, March 7.

Puentevella said on March 4, Degamo, a dedicated public servant, was murdered by armed men in broad daylight while rendering public services to his constituents.

He said such evil and callous acts left nine people dead and wounded several civilians.

"The City Government of Bacolod strongly condemns the callous, barbaric, and evil acts, which have no place in a civilized and democratic society," he added.

Puentevella disclosed that the city stands in solidarity and is sending its condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of Negros Oriental and calls on the authorities to render swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.*
