(UPDATE) -- Councilor Ricardo Tan and his wife Nita were wounded in an ambush in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City on Friday evening, December 14.

Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office, said the couple came from Campuestohan Highland Resort, which they owned in Talisay City, when they were waylaid by three assailants boarding a white wagon type vehicle.

The assailants released rapid gunfire to the official’s vehicle, a Nissan Patrol that hit the windshield. The vehicle was left with 22 bullet holes at the front part and another 13 at the rear.

The glass window on the driver’s side was destroyed.

Ebreo said both victims managed to survive the rapid fire and were able to drive to Police Station 5 in Barangay Granada where the Tan asked for assistance on their way to the hospital in this city.

The vehicle was parked in the parking area of the hospital while the couple was brought to the emergency room to get immediate medical assistance.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives team recovered 24 empty shells of caliber 5.56 and seven empty shells of caliber .45 from the crime scene.

Ebreo said the victims sustained abrasion from the broken glass of the car windows. He added they were not severely hurt.

He said the couple has yet to issue a statement, adding they were traumatized and shocked by the incident.

Police are still conducting further investigation regarding the incident. (CNC)
