Bacolod ready to give booster shots for healthcare workers

EMERGENCY Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF) Executive Director Em Ang said they are still waiting for guidelines on how to go about with the giving of booster shots against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

"(But we) are ready," Ang said.

Under the guidelines of the Department of Health, fully vaccinated healthcare workers may avail themselves of booster doses starting November 17.

Based on the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the DOH recommended the use of either Moderna, Pfizer, and Sinovac as booster doses regardless of the brand used for the primary series.

Sinovac will also be offered as a booster for those that had such a brand of vaccine as primary series.

Ang said they are only waiting for the guidelines from the DOH to start the booster doses for the Priority Group A1.

Ang said the city has enough vaccines for the booster doses because they have available Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna and Sinovac vaccines.

She noted that their master list showed that Bacolod City already inoculated more than 12,000 healthcare workers.

"Once we have the green light to start the third doses, we will conduct the inoculation in various vaccination centers in the city," Ang said.

"There's no need to sign up online just show your vaccination cards," she told the health workers who want to avail themselves of the booster shots.

After the health workers, the EOC-TF will also give booster doses to the senior citizens and persons with comorbidities.
