AN ESTIMATED P136,965 worth of prohibited firecrackers were destroyed at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) headquarters Thursday, January 3.

Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, acting BCPO director, led the ceremonial disposal of the illegal firecrackers confiscated during their inspection, together with the Regional Civil Security Unit in firecracker zones and prohibited areas in the city from December 29 to 31, 2018.

These firecrackers were also buried at the back of the BCPO headquarters.

In a press briefing, Ebreo said there are still some vendors who sell firecrackers at the non-designated firecracker zones.

They only wanted to sell and gain profit without having a concern to the public for any untoward incident that may happen, Ebreo said.

Based on the record of the BCPO, eight minors were injured due to firecrackers.

Ebreo said one of the factors that caused firecracker-related injuries particularly on children was the lack of guidance from their parents.

“Parents should supervise their children properly to avoid these circumstances or situations especially during holiday season,” he added. (Christopher D. Yanson, CHMSC-Talisay intern)
