Body of rebel found in Isabela town

THE body of a slain New People's Army (NPA) member was recovered Tuesday morning, December 1, in Barangay Riverside, Isabela after a rebel surrenderer told authorities.

Authorities identified the slain insurgent as Randy Garsola, a member of the NPA's Central Negros 1 Front.

Police Captain Joseph Partidas, chief of Isabela Police Station, said Garsola's remains were recovered after one of the recently surrendered NPA members, "Ka Ray," told the authorities where the victim was buried.

Partidas said based on Ka Ray's statement, Garsola told his fellow comrades that he wishes to see his family. However, the insurgent leaders allegedly denied his request and he was ordered to be executed due to the NPA leadership's fear that Garsola might reveal their location to the authorities.

Partidas said Ka Ray witnessed how Garsola was allegedly killed in the neighboring town of La Libertad in Negros Oriental. His remains were then brought to Barangay Riverside in Isabela and buried in a shallow grave.

The Philippine National Police-Scene of the Crime Operatives are set to perform a DNA test to determine if the remains they recovered indeed belong to Garsola. (TDE)
