AFTER more than two weeks, Himamaylan City Mayor Raymond Tongson has ordered the resumption of classes in Barangay Carabalan effective Sunday, October 16, 2022.

On October 6, Tongson suspended the classes of all levels in the mountainous barangay due to armed clashes between the government troops and the members of communist terrorist groups.

Tongson noted that in consultation with the Department of Education School Division Superintendent Gladys Amylaine Sales, the former recommended the resumption of classes in Barangays Cabadiangan and Carabalan.

However, students residing in Sitio Campayas, Medel and Sig-an are still barred from going to school and will instead be provided with modules in the various evacuation centers, where they are temporarily staying, he said.

“As of Saturday, October 15 the Philippine Army’s Incident Management Team (IMT) recommended that except for evacuees residing in Sitio Campayas, Medel, Sig-ang of Barangay Carabalan, all evacuees in Barangay Cabadiangan and Barangay Carabalan may now return their respective homes,” Tongson said.

The sporadic gunfight between the government troops in Himamaylan resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and rebel-leader Romeo Nanta and injuries to six other government troop members.
