A POLICEMAN was injured after he was shot by his friend, also a policeman, at Barangay Fabrica in Sagay City Thursday evening, January 2.

Authorities identified the victim as Patrolman Alex Lago, 25, of Barangay Taba-ao of the said northern Negros Occidental city.

The suspect was identified as Police Corporal Elver dela Cruz, 26, of Barangay Fabrica.

Police Major Antonio Benitez, chief of Sagay City Police Station, said the two policemen had their dinner together prior to having a drinking session near the suspect’s house.

Benitez said they had a heated argument. The suspect then shot the victim using his 9mm service firearm.

Lago sustained a gunshot wound on his back. He was rushed to the hospital.

“The suspect, his friend, was among those who brought the victim to the hospital,” he said, adding that he was arrested there during the follow-up operation.

Corresponding charges are up for filing against him, the police added.
