A COUNCILMAN wanted for murder was arrested for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition in Barangay Patun-an, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, January 30.

Joint operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)- Western Visayas, Calatrava Municipal Police Station, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion- Western Visayas raided the house of 55-year-old Alexander Apurado.

Chief Inspector Rocky Desear, town police chief, said Apurado is an incumbent councilman in the village and running for municipal councilor in this year’s midterm elections.

Police recovered from him a caliber .22 magnum and four live ammunition.

Desear said Apurado was also served with an arrest warrant for murder with no bail.

He (Apurado) committed the crime a few years ago, Desear said.

He is also allegedly a leader of Apurado Group, a newly-organized group involved in robbery hold-up and land grabbing in Bacolod City and in the northern part of the province, he said.

He is detained at CIDG Bacolod office.

Desear said Apurado will be charged for violation of the Republic Act 10591 or illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Desear said Apurado’s neighbor, meanwhile, surrendered a carbine rifle and several ammunition after he learned about the councilman’s arrest.
