BACOLOD City Councilor Bartolome Orola has asked the office of Congressman Greg Gasataya, in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways, to possibly facilitate the conversion of all streetlights into solar-operated streetlights from the Bacolod Circumferential Road going to Silay Airport.

Orola said solar-operated streetlights can be the answer to the need for a less expensive, low-maintenance electrical power source for the city, especially in the main thoroughfare including major roads and highways.

He said solar-powered streetlights are now being utilized by other cities and municipalities in the country.

“The Circumferential Road going to Bacolod Silay Airport is a major highway that is being utilized not just by local residents, but the local and international tourist as well,” he continued.

Orola noted that it has been observed that on circumferential road, starting from Bacolod City going to Silay Airport, the streetlights are not functioning and the roads are so dark, which may cause road accidents and mishaps for the commuters.

“Solar power is an unlimited power source, but so far unutilized by our government to its fullest extent,” Orola added. (MAP)
