Farmer shot dead

 Adrian P. Nemes III

AT least six gun shot wounds in various parts of his body claimed the life of a farmer at the far-flung area of Barangay Agboy in Candoni town, Negros Occidental at about 4 p.m. Monday, July 4.

Town police chief, Captain Ronald Santillan, told Sunstar Bacolod yesterday, July 5, that they don’t have a suspect yet in the death of Angelito Chavez, 53, of the barangay’s Sitio Bili.

Initial investigation showed that Chavez was on his way home from their farm when the suspect appeared and shot him without provocation.

His wife, whose name the police withheld, said she was following her husband when she heard six gunshots, adding that she met the suspect along the way while he was escaping.

However, Santillan said Chavez’s wife failed to identify or describe the suspect.

Chavez, who has no known enemies, had not received any threats prior to the shooting, the police said.

Six fired cartridge cases of unknown caliber of firearm were recovered from the scene of the crime believed to have been triggered by grudge.

Chavez died upon arrival at the town’s Rural Health Unit.*
