COMMUNITIES surrounding the hotels and pension houses in Bacolod City where repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are currently billeted “have no need to worry” as they are guarded and isolated from the public, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson assured.

Lacson made an assurance after some barangay officials in the city complained that the provincial government did not coordinate with them that the OFWs are being housed in their jurisdiction.

The governor said medical and security personnel are deployed in these quarantine facilities to ensure they will not go out.

“It is the responsibility of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) to look for a hotel for the returning workers,” Lacson said.

He added that there “is really nothing to fear.”

“These OFWs are supposed to have already tested negative in Manila before they were allowed to go home,” he said adding that “common sense tells us that you don’t visit them at the hotel.”

The community is safe, he further said.

A total of 600 OFWs and one infant have already returned to the province since May 25 to June 1. (TDE)
