NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said yesterday, June 12 that he is studying the creation of the Negros Economic Development Authority (Neda).

This plan came up after Lacson met with officials of the Guam Economic Development Authority (Geda), led by Edward Camacho last week where they discussed possible economic development collaboration between Negros Occidental and the United States territory.

Geda, a public corporation created by law on August 21, 1965, provides centralized direction, control, and supervision of an integrated plan for the economic development of Guam through its programs and offerings.

This also includes public finance services, business and investment assistance and incentives programs, and real property management.

Lacson said that with the resignation of former Capitol consultant Alfredo "Albee" Benitez after he won as mayor of Bacolod City, the Neda "can actually provide the Service for economic affairs and investment."

Benitez served as consultants of Lacson for economic affairs and investment.

However, the governor stressed that Neda "will need to work with government,"

While Geda is a public corporation created by law, they will also look into the possibility if a Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance is necessary for the creation of Neda.
