GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson leaves the issue on school opening this school year to President Rodrigo Duterte and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Lacson said many do not want to enroll for the school opening.

“Many are willing to wait for another year,” Lacson said.

Enrolment has already started on June 1 despite the continued threat of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic after the Department of Education presented a “Blended Learning” setup in Philippine education to avoid a day-to-day face-to-face classroom method between teachers and their students.

Lacson said even the Senate has already authorized President Rodrigo Duterte to suspend the resumption of classes.

The governor added that the local officials have already made a stand against the opening of classes on August 24 until a cure or vaccine against Covid-19 is already available.

He earlier said he was in favor of scrapping this school year 2020-2021 because of the threat of Covid-19 pandemic.

Lacson said it is much better if classes will start next year.

“Nobody will be left behind if there are no classes. One-year rest is not so bad. It’s safer and by that time there could already be vaccine or cure for Covid-19, the governor pointed out. (TDE)
