Guv to tackle ways to help Negrense OFWs amid Ukraine crisis

Teresa D. Ellera

NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he is meeting with Sally Barrios, the provincial representative for overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

Lacson will discuss how to help distress Negrense OFWs who are now affected by the escalating crisis in Ukraine.

"I will coordinate with Barrios to discuss the latest potential crisis in Ukraine," he said.

Lacson, however, did not disclose if the Provincial Government will already set up a help desk for Negrenses who are currently working in Ukraine.

This will depend on the outcome of his meeting with Barrios, the governor said.

Last week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) urged OFWs in Ukraine to evacuate following threats of a potential Russian invasion of the country.

The Ukraine crisis stemmed over the country's plans to enter the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which is opposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
