THE chief of police of Ilog town will be investigated over their illegal gambling operation that resulted in the death of one person.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) spokesperson Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo said a motu proprio case investigation will be conducted over Capt. Thurslie Castillo.

The investigation is a standard operating procedure, Catalogo said.

He added that the investigating team will be led by the Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6), the Internal Affairs Service (IAS), and the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM).

Authorities are also deepening their probe as to what really happened during the raid, he said.

According to the police report, Castillo shot the suspect after they stabbed him multiple times during the operation.

Killed was 35-year-old Abundio Redoble.

Other suspects were identified as John Mark, 25, Samson Tagapan, 63, and a 16-year-old boy whose identity was withheld.

The three suspects, together with Castillo, were rushed to the hospital.

According to Ilog police, they conducted the operation after receiving reports of 30 individuals allegedly playing cara y cruz or tumbo/hantug in Barangay Dancalan around 9:00 p.m. on March 18.

In the middle of the raid’s scuffle, Castillo was able to get hold of some suspects.

However, the Redoble brothers and Tagapan retaliated and stabbed the police chief.

Castillo, in response, drew his service firearm and shot the suspects.*
