Internet providers told to improve services

Merlinda A. Pedrosa

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution appealing to internet providers to ensure uninterrupted, continuous and faster internet connectivity to all of their subscribers, considering that students and employed individuals are reliant on the internet during the pandemic period.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito, was approved during the regular session of the City Council on Wednesday, December 2, 2020.

Distrito said previously, President Rodrigo Duterte made a pronouncement to all internet service providers such as PLDT, Smart, Globe and Skycable to ensure reliable and faster internet connectivity all over the country.

She said due to health protocols and quarantines implemented during the pandemic, the internet has been the ideal way to conduct classes and perform jobs through various online platforms.

“Online classes and jobs are convenient yet several clamors were raised that classes and jobs got delayed or suspended due to the slow and disconnecting internet access,” she added.

"Being the people’s representative, this august body appeals to the internet service providers to possibly improve the services they offer considering that the pandemic is ongoing and that internet connectivity has been the best source of information, education and services to most people," Distrito added.
