THE IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC), the garbage hauler of Bacolod City, will use the global positioning system (GPS) application to monitor the garbage collection in various barangays, Ramel Palalon, officer-in-charge of the Department of Public Services (DPS), said Thursday, February 2.

Palalon said the city’s garbage hauler will install GPS to their 45 garbage trucks that are operating in the 61 barangays.

He said IPM-CDC’s representatives from Manila already presented the GPS application to their office.

He added the city’s garbage hauler was also using the zonal map for the schedule of the garbage collection in the barangays.

These include colors red, for daily collection in Barangays 1 to 41 including main roads; blue - Monday and Thursday, in Barangays Bata, Villamonte, Banago, Mandalagan, Granada, Montevista, and Alangilan; yellow - Tuesday and Friday, from Barangays Taculing, Mansilingan, Estefania, and the main/inner roads; and Green - Wednesday and Saturday, in Barangays Sum-ag, Punta Taytay, Pahanocoy, Cabug, Handumanan, Felisa, Tangub, Alijis, Vista Alegre, and main/inner roads.

“Through GPS application, we can monitor the operation of the IPM-CDC’s trucks to ensure that they are following the schedule of garbage collection. Since last year, we are receiving complaints of uncollected garbage in various barangays,” Palalon said.

He said it’s the directive of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to improve the garbage collection in the city.

In December 2022, the City Council approved the four-month extension of the contract of services between the city government and IPM-CDC for the collection, hauling, and disposal of garbage from January 1 to April 30, 2023.

The City Council also approved the four-month extension of IPM-CDC’s contract for the management and operation of the sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa.*
