‘Kidnapped’ infant rescued

Teresa D. Ellera

A FIVE-DAY-OLD baby was rescued from an alleged kidnapper in Cadiz City over the weekend.

The suspect was identified as Dorena Arquio, 47, from Purok Hitalon, Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City.

Police arrested Arquio following a hot pursuit operation at Don Salvador Uno in Barangay Tinampaan of the same city, Sunday, February 23.

Police investigation showed that on February 16, the day the baby was born, the suspect approached the baby’s parents Corie and Rolen Inocencio in Cadiz City District Hospital and offered to help them fix their documents in order to be discharged from the hospital.

When the couple finally returned home with Arquio on Saturday afternoon, the suspect allegedly brought the baby out to a sari-sari store but failed to return.

The couple reported the incident to the Women and Children’s Protection Desk, and the baby was rescued on Sunday after several residents tipped off the police stating they saw the tricycle ridden by the suspect.

The suspect is currently detained at the Cadiz City PNP detention cell while kidnapping charges are being prepared to be filed against her in court. (TDE)
