AT LEAST 23 farmers in Barangay Codcod were trained on blueberry and strawberry propagation by the Bureau of Plant Industry of the Department of Agriculture on Thursday, February 27.

Nancy Aspuria, project in-charge of the Blueberry & Strawberry Trial of the Baguio National Crop Research, Development & Production said that Brgy. Codcod like Canlaon City has great potential for growing blueberries and strawberries because of its elevated mountainous landscape and cold climate suitable for these kinds of crop just like Baguio City.

She added that back in August 2017 they have already put in trial the planting of strawberries in Brgy. Codcod and found out in 2018 that its growth declined because farmers lacked the necessary training. Hence, they now backed farmers with enough knowledge about the said crops for successful production.

Said farmers were taught about cultural management of blueberry and strawberry, production of strawberry and propagation technique for blueberry and strawberry after which site visit to the farm area was made.
