THE Negros Occidental Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) is continuing its war against environmental violators in Salvador Benedicto.

Penro head Edgardo Rostata, in a press statement, said their legal team filed charges against the illegal occupants of the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP) and Mount Kanla-on Natural Park.

Two cases were filed due to the violation of Section 20 of the National Integrated Protected Area System Act (Nipas) Act which are illegal structures, fencing, and squatting.

Also, one was charged with the possession of native tree species without a permit while another violated the Mount Kanla-on Natural Law for erecting illegal structures without a permit from the Protected Area Management Board.

The Northern Negros Natural Park is considered as the last frontier of Negros Island that covers areas the cities of Talisay, Silay, Victorias, Cadiz, Sagay, and San Carlos and the towns of E.B. Magalona, Toboso, Calatrava, Salvador Benedicto, and Murcia. (PR)
