A MOTORCYCLE rider died in a road accident in front of San Miguel Corp., Montelibano Avenue, Barangay Granada, Bacolod City Monday evening, January 20.

Police identified the fatality as Roland Pineda, 55, of Paglaum Village, Barangay Mansilingan.

Police Captain John Christopher Masangkay, chief of Police Station 5, said on Tuesday, January 21, that Pineda was driving his Honda motorcycle around 11:10 p.m. toward Barangay Granada Proper when he bumped into a 10-wheeler truck driven by Edgar Maribao, 44, of Barangay Sambag, Cebu City.

Pineda sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.

Masangkay said the victim was also wearing helmet, but because of the strong impact, he did not survive.

He said Maribao, who voluntarily surrendered to Police Station 5, stopped in the middle of the road because of the low hanging cable in the area.

“His helper tried to fix it so they can pass in the area, but the victim bumped into their truck,” he added.

The truck driver is detained at Police Station 5 custodial facility and facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
