Newborn baby found dead

A NEWBORN baby girl wrapped in a towel was found dead inside a plastic bag at GV Street in Barangay 19, Bacolod City Wednesday night, September 5.

Senior Inspector Rey Tolosa Jr., head of Police Station 4, said the baby was sealed in three plastics and was left by an unidentified woman past 7 p.m., despite the rain.

Part of the umbilical cord and placenta were still attached, Tolosa added.

A woman reportedly disembarked from a white vehicle and left the baby, Tolosa said, as he quoted a man, who was waiting for a passenger jeepney across the street and witnessed the incident.

A nurse, who passed by the area, checked the pulse of the baby while the police are waiting for the personnel of the City Health Office and the Women and Children's Protection Desk (WCDP) to arrive.

Tolosa said it is still hard to tell the reason of the woman for abandoning her child but he stressed that "we will look into this matter."

He said they will also check a copy of the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage nearby for the possible identification of the woman.

Tolosa said the baby's mother can be charged with infanticide for the crime she committed.

Meanwhile, village chief Kim Piramo said the barangay will facilitate the burial of the child on Thursday, September 6.

The baby was brought to a chapel in the village for a blessing before her interment.

Piramo said, “this is the first time that such incident happened in the area.”
