Night market along Bonifacio Street pushed

Merlinda A. Pedrosa

"WE WILL wait for the recommendation of Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to allow the night market along Bonifacio Street in Bacolod City."

This was stressed Tuesday, June 14, by Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council's committee on transportation and traffic, in response to a request for the holding of a night market in the area.

Shiela Verzosa, president of RTW and retailers of Metro Bacolod Association Inc., earlier asked the City Government to allow them to conduct a night market along on Bonifacio Street from June 13 to 30, starting 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Ramos said they already forwarded their request to the BTAO to conduct a study on the proposed activity and make a recommendation if it is feasible or not.

"We will first determine the effect on traffic before approving their request," he said, adding that the BTAO will determine the affected public utility vehicles once they close Bonifacio Street.

For his part, Dennis Perma, who is in-charge of BTAO administrative section, said they will check the request so they can submit their recommendation to the City Council.

Perma said that in the past, specifically during the term of former mayor Monico Puentevella, a night market was also held along Ballesteros Street.

"We will study their request and it's up to the City Council if they will grant it or not," he added.
