No violators arrested during San Juan festivities in Bacolod

Merlinda A. Pedrosa

BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) Spokesperson Major Sherlock Gabana on Thursday, June 24, 2021, said the celebration of St. John the Baptist (San Juan) in Bacolod City was generally peaceful.

Gabana said they strictly enforced Executive Order No. 32 or the suspension of the public celebration of the traditional St. John the Baptist (San Juan) excursions, picnics, revelries, and similar activities.

He said all beaches and mountain resorts, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops, especially in Barangays Punta Taytay, Pahanocoy, Granada and Alangilan, were closed Thursday.

“We are thankful for the cooperation of the business establishment owners with no violators arrested,” he added.

Gabana noted that policemen inspected business establishments and there were no reported mass gatherings in said areas.

Gabana said some individuals were engaging in water-splashing activities along Barangay Singcang-Airport, but they stopped when policemen advised them that it was prohibited.

On June 19, Mayor Evelio Leonardia issued EO 32, stating that at present, Bacolod City had been experiencing a spike and rebound in Covid-19 infection for the past 14 days of June, with the Department of Health-Western Visayas classifying Bacolod City as a "high-risk" area for Covid-19.

Gabana said they will continue their visibility patrol in areas with beaches and mountain resorts, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops to ensure that there will be no mass gathering Friday until the weekend.
