THE Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) in Bacolod City is gearing up for more development projects for its senior high school students, its top official said.

Mario Amaca, principal of NOHS, said on Tuesday, February 26, that new buildings in the school have been completed while some are under construction.

This is part of the implementation of Republic Act 10533, an act enhancing the Philippine basic education system, he added.

Currently, NOHS has a total population of 8,000 students with 300 teachers, the biggest in the whole province.

It is also the oldest school in the province.

Amaca said they had problems at first as to where they could construct the new school buildings due to the old “Bagong Lipunan” which were constructed during the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

Amaca, however, said they decided to demolish some of the buildings in the campus to give way for the construction of the new ones.

“The old ones were replaced with the high-rise buildings,” Amaca said, adding that some of the buildings will be utilized as laboratories for automotive works, home economics, and cookery.

One of the buildings due for completion before the start of school year 2019 to 2020 is pegged at P16 million.

Also, eight new school buildings are being constructed. Of which, some are already nearing completion.

Amaca said the school targets to complete the construction of all buildings next year.

Meanwhile, NOHS also inaugurated their road concreting project on Tuesday.

This is through NOHS Alumni Batch 1985, and Silver Dragon Construction which donated the project.

The concreting of 400-square meter road costs about P300,000.

The inauguration rites was attended by Silver Dragon's Jerry Sy, former Fourth District Representative Jeffrey Ferrer and members and officers of NOHS Alumni Batch '85. (TDE)
