Sexagenarian sideswiped by Brazilian’s vehicle dies

A SEXAGENARIAN died after she was hit by a pick-up vehicle along Burgos Street at Capitol Hills Subdivision, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City at noon Sunday, December 4.

Police identified the fatality as Cecila Valentino, 64, a resident of Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Major Ritchie Gohee, commander of Police Station 4, said yesterday the victim was crossing from north to south direction of Burgos Street when she was hit by the vehicle driven by Julio Cesar Aquino, 44.

Aquino, a Brazilian National and a temporary resident of Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City, was heading west of Burgos Street when the accident happened, Gohee said.

Valentino was rushed to the Metro Bacolod Hospital, but died while being treated.

Gohee said Aquino voluntarily surrendered at the police station while an initial settlement between him and the victim’s family is now underway.
