A MEMBER of the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) of the Philippine Army was injured after suspected rebels allegedly harassed their temporary patrol base in Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Thursday night, January 10.

Colonel Benedict Arevalo, commander of the 303rd IB, withheld the name of the victim who was slightly wounded in the incident.

About seven to nine members of the New People’s Army (NPA) attacked the patrol base at 7:45 p.m., Arevalo said.

An intermittent firefight lasted for about 15 minutes, he added.

The rebels then withdrew toward the northeast.

Arevalo said they have yet to determine if there were casualties on the rebel’s side.

It was the first attack of the rebels this year after the military discovered an alleged NPA hideout or camp in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City on January 1, Arevalo said. (GYM)
