A MEMBER of the Philippine Army sustained a minor hack wound after he was allegedly attacked with a bolo in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental on New Year’s Day, January 1.

Police identified the victim as Private First Class Junrel Villan, 24, of Barangay San Miguel. He is a member of the 11th Infantry Battalion.

Chief Inspector Roberto Indiape Jr., town police chief, said the victim and suspect Kokoy Guevara, 39, of Barangay Minoyan were having a drinking session at 4 a.m. when a heated exchange ensued between them.

The suspect then left the victim and their other companions, but he later returned with a bolo and hacked Villan on his left knee.

Villan was rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City while the suspect hid in a sugarcane plantation. He was later arrested by the police.

Indiape said the incident was triggered by drunkenness.

Guevara is detained at the police station for the filing of the physical injury charges.

The police were not able to recover the weapon used in the crime. (GYM)
