Another mayor in Negros Occidental was tested positive of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Talisay City Mayor Neil Lizares III was the latest chief executive to have been infected with the virus.

Lizares, in a statement yesterday, September 21, said that he remains asymptomatic and reassured everyone that he is taking every step possible to ensure that he stays in good health.

“Let us continue to pray for the fast recovery of all Covid-19 active cases in the City of Talisay,” he said, urging everyone to get vaccinated and continue to follow all minimum safety standards and health protocols for their protection.

On Monday, September 20, Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco was also tested positive.

Zayco is currently isolated at a private hospital in Bacolod City.

Zayco and Lizares are among 13 mayors who attended a fellowship lunch for members of Love Negros at Nature's Village Resort in Talisay City on Saturday, September 18.

Capitol consultant and Love Negros convenor former Third District Rep. Alfredo Benitez, who went on isolation, has advised those who attended the event to isolate themselves, too.

Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II, the provincial administrator, said that Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is already on isolation.

Diaz added that the other mayors will be tested on Thursday, September 23, five days after their exposure to Zayco during the event. (TDE)
