Teen delivers baby in rice field

Erwin P. Nicavera

A TEENAGE girl safely gave birth to a baby girl in the middle of a rice field in Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City over the weekend.

Jamaica Gloria Mueda, of Sipalay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), said the 17-year-old teen was on her way to a hospital along with her partner and brother-in-law when she suddenly went into labor.

Their house is located near the rice field, which is meters away from the highway.

Mueda said the family was able to call a rescue team before they started walking.

The team arrived just in time to help the mother deliver her baby.

"The mother and baby were brought to a birthing center in the city. They are now in good condition," she added.
