BACOLOD Councilor Em Ang urged the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to upgrade the city’s street lighting system by installing solar-powered light emitting diode (LED) street lights all over Bacolod.

Ang, chairperson of the City Council committee on tourism, said on Wednesday, November 28, the solar-powered LED street lights are environmental friendly because they are solely dependent on the heat energy that is given off by the sun.

“They are also energy and cost efficient because they are maintenance free and last more than 13 years or 50,000 hours,” she said.

She added the use of solar-powered LED street lights will also provide a whiter light that promotes better visual acuity that will make a clearer and easier to decipher between objects at night.

Ang added it will be beneficial for the city to upgrade the street lighting system by installing solar-powered LED street lights all over the city because it will significantly reduce the city’s electrical and maintenance expenses for street lights. (MAP)
