SHAME on former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile for claiming no one was arrested for their beliefs during the tyrannical rule of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

On the eve of the 46th anniversary of martial law, Enrile had a tete-a-tete with the dictator’s son and namesake, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

They “corrected” the lies about the martial law that were concocted in history books.

According to Enrile, the architect and implementer of military rule, there is no truth to reports that some 70,000 people were arrested during the martial law.

“Name me one person that was arrested because of political or religious belief during that period. None. Name me one person that was arrested simply because he criticized President Marcos. None,” he said.

Enrile also said that millennials are misinformed about martial law.

“They claimed that we killed a lot of people. When I was interviewed by someone some time ago, I challenged her, name me one that we executed, we killed except Lim Seng,” Enrile said.

Martial law is considered as the darkest period of the Philippine history.

This stunt to undermine the truth is just pathetic. They’re rewriting history as they know it. What a shame.

Many were tortured, abused, detained, and killed just because they stood up against the dictatorship of Marcos.

The tete-a-tete of the dictator’s son and Enrile bastardized the memory of the brave souls who fought against the military rule.

In fact, this worthless act just wanted to restore the name of the Marcoses to further their political ambitions.

One can’t just rewrite history, let alone distort it. It’s ludicrous and revolting.
